Kampthalerwarte

Highlight • Viewpoint

The control room, also known as the “Heiligensteinerwarte”, is famous for its magnificent view. When the weather is good, the view extends as far as the Alpine peaks of the Ötscher and Schneeberg!

In 1889 the Kamptalbahn started its first train journey. At this time, the development of tourism in the Kamp Valley also began. Summer freshness was the order of the day and many people from Vienna and other cities flocked to the wine-filled idyll on the Kamp. In order to give summer visitors a view from Heiligenstein, the Austrian Tourist Club built the pretty “Kampthalwarte” (as it was then spelled) in the neo-Gothic style in 1897.

Eggenburg town centre

Highlight • Settlement

Right on the main square of the medieval town, you can sit in front of an inn and enjoy the cityscape. The town has a completely preserved city wall. Unique cultural monuments and museums invite visitors to travel back in time.

History:
The granite plateau above the Schmida, on which Eggenburg is founded, was already inhabited by people in prehistoric times, from the Neolithic period. The town was founded in the Babenberg period (976-1246). After the turn of the millennium, Lower Austria was settled as far as the Nordwald - today's Waldviertel. To secure this area, the fortified border town of Eggenburg was built around 1160/70, already with market function. The first documented mentions of Eginpurch date from the 12th century. In the dispute between Premysl Ottokar and Rudolf von Habsburg, Eggenburg sided with the Habsburgs, who then renewed the town's city rights on August 13, 1277.
A fire disaster in 1808 led to the town's decline. With the construction of the Franz Josef Railway in 1870, Eggenburg could be reached from Vienna in two hours. The population grew again, and the garden city initiative of the merchant Franz Gamerith led to the town expanding.

The Eggenburg main square impresses above all with its spaciousness, which reflects the importance of the princely city of Eggenburg as a trading and market center.

Nice stop with a huge stone table. Wetland biotope, small bridge and a nice opportunity for a detour through almost invisible path along the small stream.
