Schlögen Loop

Highlight (Segment) • River

Of course one of the highlights on the Danube Cycle Path. Definitely go up to the viewpoint. But be careful: the path is very steep and rocky (partly loose scree) and takes about 20 to 30 minutes. Safe footing and sturdy shoes are therefore absolutely necessary. But the view is perfect!

The Danube bike trail EuroVelo 6 hugs the river and closely follows around the horseshoe bend. An excellent car-free quiet bike trail. An overview of the tight turn can be seen from the viewpoints higher up on the valley sides, but the switchbacks the stream had cut into the rocks are quite obvious from the trail itself.

Schlögen Loop

Highlight • River

One of the top highlights on the Danube Cycle Path from Passau to Vienna. Very beautiful. but often also quite crowded here with tourists. In order to marvel at the loop in all its glory, you have to go on a short hike. This is particularly worthwhile in the morning and evening hours.

The border triangle has a very special flair. With a few steps you can cross the respective border and "get a foothold" in Germany, the Czech Republic or Austria.

If you want to take a break and have a snack, you can do so on the huge stone table.

Großer Schoberstein summit

Highlight • Summit

What could be better than being rewarded with such a fantastic view after a climb? From the summit of the Großer Schobersteins you can see the Attersee, the Schafberg and a piece of the Mondsee you can even see. West of the Great Schoberstein is the 950 meter high little brother. The Kleine Schoberstein can be easily reached via a small climbing path (difficulty level I).

Reichersberg Abbey

Highlight • Religious Site

19 "canons" belong to this monastery, part of which lives permanently in the magnificent grounds. You can get to know them as part of a monastery tour. If you really want to calm down, you can even stay overnight. Cyclists and pilgrims in particular are welcome to spend the night in the pen, which by the way lies directly on the Roman bike path R6 and, as a "bed + bike" partner, is especially geared to the needs of cyclists.

Sternstein Observation Tower

Highlight • Viewpoint

The so-called "Kaiser Franz Joseph Jubiläumswarte" was built in 1898/99 and nowadays offers its visitors an amazing view. You can see the Böhmerland to Schöninger, the 1,111 meter high Viehberg near Sandl in the east and the Breitenstein in the south to the Ameisberg in the west. If the view is particularly clear, the chain of the northern limestone Alps from the Schneeberg to the Untersberg ski area near Gutenstein opens up on the horizon from southeast to southwest.

But be careful: For safety reasons, the control room is closed in the winter months (November to March).

Front Gosau Lake

Highlight • Lake

From this location, you will find the perfect postcard motif: Still the lake lies at your feet and the gray mountains and the blue sky are picturesquely reflected in the water. Still beautiful for the hundredth time.
