Next to the lock, there is a bridge over the canal and a small rest area. Nice place with an open view over the canal. The lock is intended to prevent groundwater from being lowered further - it was already significantly lowered by the construction of the canal.

One of the great radial paths from the castle to the north through the Hardtwald. Karlsruhe is the fan city because the main axes run fan-shaped from the castle to the south. The main axes also run fan-shaped to the north from the castle. The Hardtwald could also be called Fan Forest. 🙃😂

At this point, the Grabener Allee crosses the Pfinz-Entlastungskanal. The otherwise 15 km long, perfectly straight road makes a small detour because of the bridge.

10km straight path. Mostly paved trail through the forest, starting at KIT and ending at the castle gardens. The asphalt is uneven in the KIT area, with roots, etc. Further along, it's well paved. Easily rideable on a gravel bike.
