Sassnitz Town Hall was not only a town hall but also a bathhouse. It once housed 40 bathing cabins. It also served as a backdrop for various scenes of Praxis with a Sea View.

A lost place in Sassnitz You can still imagine that it was once a magnificent house.

The "Stubnitz-Lichtspiele" cinema opened in 1958 as a movie theater and cultural center for the rapidly growing town of Sassnitz in the 1960s. Inside, the ground floor housed a spacious foyer and a state-run restaurant, while the large cinema hall was located on the upper floor. A stage allowed for the use of the building not only as a movie theater but also for large events, youth consecration ceremonies, and theatrical performances and concerts. Because the building remained almost entirely untouched after its closure in 1992, it is now highly valued by historic preservationists. Experts are already working on preserving the eleven remaining concrete reliefs by the renowned Rostock sculptor Jo Jastram on the facade, as well as the extensive original interior furnishings. Until then, however, the "Lichtspiele" remains, unfortunately, a relic of the now re-evaluated GDR architecture of the 1950s in dire need of renovation. https://festspiele-mv.de/spielstaetten/spielstaette/sassnitz-stubnitz-lichtspiele

Built in 1954, the former sailors' home, with its fascinating view of the Prorer Wiek, underwent extensive renovations in 1994 to become a spa hotel that meets the highest standards. The hotel's maritime character, which is evident throughout, has been preserved. Our light-filled foyer leads to the staircase or elevator, leading to over 90 rooms. The tastefully furnished rooms exude a cozy atmosphere, which also extends to the breakfast rooms, the conference room, and the "Bi ́n Fischer" restaurant. https://www.kurhotelsassnitz.de/geschichte-des-hauses/

In Sassnitz, buildings of spa architecture can be seen primarily in the old town and along the beach promenade, such as the ensemble surrounding the Hotel Fürstenhof and in the area around the spa square. Striking examples of spa architecture include the villas "Hertha," "Anna," and "Prinz Heinrich." https://www.sassnitz.m-vp.de/baederarchitektur-sassnitz/

The Stubnitz-Lichtspiele film theater and cultural center, built in 1958, is located at Stralsunder Straße 43 in Sassnitz. This building currently stands out because it has not yet been renovated. However, the preserved inventory has remained so extensive since its closure in 1992 that viewing it allows a journey through time into the construction and use history of an important cultural center in the still young port city of Sassnitz.
