The Schäferlauf monument on the market square of Bad Urach was erected in 2023 for the 300th anniversary of the Urach Schäferlauf. The sculpture was created by the sculptor Peter Lenk. Several almost life-sized figures humorously depict the traditional race of shepherds and shepherdesses. The Urach Schäferlauf has been celebrated since 1723 and dates back to an order by Duke Eberhard Ludwig. The monument thus commemorates one of the city's oldest and most important traditions. The ancient agricultural culture of the scattered fruit orchard seemed to have been forgotten for a time, as closely planted monocultures yielded higher profits in the short term. But it was eventually rediscovered as ecologically valuable and brought back from the proverbial "oblivion". Therefore, scattered fruit orchards experienced a partial comeback. Fortunately, this is also the case here in the vicinity of Reutlingen, more precisely northwest of the village of Kappishäusern.
