The Bötzsee is part of a chain of lakes and wetlands, the so-called Gamengrund. This glacial channel stretches west of Strausberg for many kilometers in a north-south direction. It is easy to walk around the lake and there are many beautiful views.

Once a chic promenade with boats and restaurants, the "Swan Pond" now leads a very miserable existence and has not been attractive to swans for a long time. My dad told me about a plan to channel the mine waste water from the Rüdersdorf limestone quarry to the Straussee, which would also benefit the Herrensee and the Anna, but we'll see.

Water level check at the Swan Pond! The water level of Lake Straussee has been dropping dramatically for over a decade. Since the Anna River is the overflow of Lake Straussee, only rainwater is flowing in. The likely cause is the wastewater treatment plant in Münchehofe. The treated water flows from there into the Spree.

At this point there is also a small rest area with a table and benches, which invites you to take a break with a view of the Bötzsee outside the bathing season.
