Gravelotte am Kummerower See owes its unusual, non-Pomeranian name to a battle of the German-French War of 1870/71. Carpenter Fritz Ewald from Meesiger took part in the bloody battle of Gravelotte (also known as the Battle of Saint-Privat, August 18, 1870 near Metz). After his return, Ewald bought a site of approx. 28 acres from the owner Franz Schlorff on the Kummerower See (part of the land went to carpenter Fritz Wend). He built a wayside inn/restaurant there in the Swiss country house style with artistic carvings and outbuildings. On August 18, 1873 – the anniversary of the battle – the inauguration ceremony took place.

Regional legends and stories about the origin of the stone, as well as alleged treasures of nuns in the vicinity of the lake, are associated with the erratic boulder, while folklore often associated such erratic boulders with the devil and his immense powers or leaps across the water. The idyllic resting place at the Teufelsstein is today a popular destination for hikers and runners on the way from Verchen along the Seeberge.

The park is an important resting area for Nordic migratory birds: Every year in autumn and spring, tens of thousands of Greater White-fronted Geese and Bean Geese, as well as Common Cranes, rest here, plus approx. 1,000 Great Crested Grebes and 2,000 Common Pochards. All three native eagle species (Lesser Spotted Eagle, White-tailed Eagle, and Osprey) breed here; beavers and otters are widespread. Other species: White Stork (in many villages), Marsh Harrier, Common Snipe, Bluethroat, etc.

Built in 1886. The forerunners of the state postal service were the Dukes of Mecklenburg's early 16th-century messenger services, operated by professional couriers who delivered letters and other items on foot or horseback, and later by carriage, along fixed routes with stops and at specific times. By the end of the 16th century, they were called postmen. In 1663, there was a privatized (tenant-operated) traveling postal service from Güstrow to Neubrandenburg. A state postal service was established in 1701.
