Tips from the Community

Holger
May 25, 2026, Bronzezeitlicher Burgwall Kratzeburg

The hill, as one of the largest Bronze Age hillforts in Northern Germany, testifies to the Germanic settlement of the Havel headwaters region around 1000 BC. The hillfort on a natural elevation between Kratzeburg and Pieverstorf has an area of 5 football fields and dates back to the Bronze Age. The hillfort, which originated from 1,000 years BC, was partly surrounded by wooden palisades and was a significant and well-protected settlement at that time. The inhabitants at the time lived from cattle breeding, fishing, hunting, and agriculture. Excavations took place at the end of the 19th century as well as at the end of the 1950s, during which, for example, grinding stones, ceramic vessels, and knives, buttons, and needles made of bronze were found. - Traces of fire on the rampart construction indicate a violent end. However, the deterioration of the climate between 500 and 300 BC likely also led to the abandonment of the settlement. (Source: Text from the information board) Not much is to be seen, apart from the massive slope.

There isn't really a view here, but several benches invite you to take a rest.

This is not the first Havel bridge, as it is south of the Großer Dieksee, about three or four kilometers further north.

A very well-designed rest area with benches and tables. The roof provides shade or, if necessary, shelter from the rain. Very useful for a rest.
