Fremont Tree

Highlight โ€ข Natural Monument

This Sequoia, the Fremont tree had its base burned a long time ago, probably due to a lightning bolt. This allows two adults to easily camp inside. This is the story that is conveyed year after year, since 1846 after the expedition led by a certain... Fremont.

Wilder Ridge Loop Trail

Highlight (Segment) โ€ข Trail

Wilder Ridge is a loop on top of the park, with two unconnected legs leading up to it on the east and west sides of the park. This tour only used the eastern leg to descend back to the Hwy 1, picking it up from Twin Oaks trail. Note at the bottom the underpass for Hwy 1 was fenced off, which meant to push the bike through some brush up the road dam and down on the other side. Hopefully the underpass is open again meanwhile, so one can make an actual loop by continuing along Peaseley Gulch past the main Farm center of the park to the beach.
At the beach one can continue back west via

Then at Four Mile Beach cross Hwy 1, where it climbs up into the park via

This is a coastal redwood, not a Sequoia redwood which is a different species found inland.

You have just got to take some time out here just to gawp at the majesty of these giant Redwoods. They are aptly named Cathedral Redwoods due to their visual association with the pillars you would find in a cathedral.

Very often running in the middle of these gigantic columns of giant trees, makes you think of huge pillars of a cathedral. This is undoubtedly the reason why they named this part of the forest that.

This trail offers enjoyable hills as it winds through a shaded area with redwoods and ferns. It's a narrow trail and a popular route for mountain bikers, so it's important to remain alert while hiking.
