A great repurposing of an industrial spoil heap into a recreational area has been achieved at the Hoheward spoil heap. In addition to the Horizontobservatorium, the landmark of the spoil heap and the sundial with the huge obelisk, the spoil heap is used for all kinds of fitness. You can hike here and enjoy beautiful views, go on breathtaking tours with your mountain bike, ski in winter or even take off with your paraglider. A "Balkon" panoramic path leads you all around and you have wide views over the Ruhr area and the spoil heap landscapes.

Super class made by the Regionalverband Ruhr. This allows you to circle the entire Hoheward slag heap at the foot and no longer need to go through the heavily trafficked industrial area. Of course, only allowed for pedestrians and cyclists, no car traffic allowed. In the middle, there is a great playground. Throughout the entire approx. 1.5 km stretch, there are always information boards about the plants native to the area.

Many different trails. From jump lines to technical trails, everything is included. Easily 2 hours of riding fun without riding the same trails. Individual trails are addictive.

Beautifully shaped trail. Also manageable for me as a beginner. The locals were extremely helpful and motivating. Together with a pace-maker, I managed the first drop into the chicken ladder.
