The Mills Gap Overlook is a short detour off of the Appalachian Trail, but it is definitely worth getting off the trail and stopping to enjoy the view. There technically isn't a set "summit" on Flat Top Mountain, but there are a few rocky outcrops that offer viewpoints of the surrounding area and the other nearby Peaks of Otter. You can easily see Abbott Lake to the south and Bedford Reservoir to the east from the lookouts. There are a couple different ways to approach the mountain, and both require a fair bit of climbing and mileage.
