The best road cycling routes in Lorain County

Wendy Park is a beautiful green space on the edge of downtown Cleveland. The park is 22-acres, with great views of the Cleveland Harbor and several trails.

Although the path has a couple of busy roads to cross. This section of the metroparks between strongsville and Rocky River are some of the best multi-use trails you can find. It stays close to the river, so the path is winding. Lots of picnic grounds and restrooms. All paved

For almost 9 miles, the Mill Stream Run Reservation All Purpose Trail meanders through a wooded park in Berea, a western Cleveland suburb. Despite running near Valley Parkway, the trail feels secluded from the urban environment. Attractions along the route include a wildlife area, several picnic spots, an archery range, and multiple connecting nature trails, including one for equestrians. The trail, with its smooth asphalt surface, is well maintained. While you might encounter walkers, runners, or roller bladers, it's rarely crowded. At its northern end, it connects to the Rocky River Reservation All-Purpose Trail.

The Rocky River Nature Center is a fantastic place to learn more about the local wildlife and the history of the Native American tribes that once inhabited that area. Restrooms and drinking water are also available in the center.

Huntington Beach, part of a larger lakefront habitat, the Huntington Reservation, which is a haven for Ohio wildlife and a center for relaxation, education, and the arts. The Huntington Reservation features three miles of nature trails through forests, creeks, and meadows, with educational programs by Rocky River Nature Center and Lake Erie Nature and Science Center. Pets are not allowed on the beach.

The Cleveland Lakefront Bikeway spans 15.1 miles along Lake Erie's shoreline, connecting Euclid and Lakewood. This route, marked with signage, includes some on-road sections and links various cultural sites, parks, and neighborhoods. This part of the bikeway offers beautiful views of Edgewater Beach. The beach offers activities like beach volleyball, cabana rentals, and kayaking, with panoramic views of downtown Cleveland. The beach, accessible from both upper and lower sections of Edgewater Park, features a dog-friendly area and 1,000 feet of swimming area.

Kipton was one of several important stops along the Lake Shore and Michigan Southern Railroad. It was also the site of a famous train wreck in 1891, that led to important changes in railroad safety. There is a plaque to commemorate the incident. While the railroad is no longer active, the North Coast Inland Trail runs through town.
