The former town hall is truly beautiful! From the side, it initially looks like a church, but from the front, you can see the typically Dutch brick gable, richly decorated with lion heads.

https://www.sneek.nl/routes/fontein-van-fortuna-sneek-11fountains On a golden sphere in the middle of the water stands a man with a Horn of Plenty. The statue refers to Fortuna, the goddess of fortune and patron saint of cities, families, and nations. The overflowing horn symbolizes the material prosperity of the fortunate person who encounters it. But the golden sphere constantly rotates on its axis, so that the water, like the influx of fortune, becomes an unpredictable force. The abundance that happens to be showered upon us can be taken away just as quickly by fate. Just look at the history of Sneek.

A small pond in the middle of the forest. There's a bench on one side for a quick rest. A bridge crosses the pond. A very beautiful, unexpected place.

The statue called "Lapkepoep and Frisian Farmer's Wife" on Wijde Burgstraat is a gift from C&A. German textile merchants Clemens and August Brenninkmeijer (founders of C&A) opened their very first store in Sneek in 1841. The artwork depicts a business conversation between a Westphalian textile merchant (also known in Friesland as a "lapkepoep") and a Frisian farmer's wife. Clemens and August arrived in Friesland around 1840 as "hannekemaaiers," casual laborers from Westphalia who mowed the farmers' lawns in the summer. In the winter, they wove flax cloth in Westphalia. After working as "hannekemaaiers" in Friesland for several seasons, they discovered they could sell the beautiful woven fabrics to wealthy farmers' wives in Friesland. This sale was a resounding success: the first C&A store opened in Sneek. The company was also the first to have ready-made clothing manufactured. In Mettingen, Germany, there is a statue of Clemens and August, being waved off by the landlord and his wife. Source: VVV Waterland
