The Staulanza Pass (1,766 m above sea level) is a Dolomite mountain pass located between the slopes of Mount Crot (Civetta Group) and those of Pelmetto (Pelmo Massif). It belongs to the municipality of Val di Zoldo, near the borders with Selva di Cadore and Borca di Cadore. It is crossed by the SP 251 road, which connects the Val di Zoldo with the Val Fiorentina. The Staulanza refuge stands at the pass. The pass is a convenient starting point for hikes around Pelmo, Civetta, and Croda da Lago.

WARNING! Under no circumstances should you drive towards Brenzone; it's very steep and very dangerous, even with well-maintained brakes!

Veneto offers a vast network for road cyclists, with over 8,700 routes available on komoot. This includes a wide range of options, from challenging mountain climbs to more relaxed rides through vineyards and along river plains.
The routes in Veneto cater to all abilities. Approximately 2,500 routes are considered easy, over 4,900 are moderate, and more than 1,200 are difficult, particularly those in the mountainous regions like the Dolomites. This diverse terrain ensures options for every fitness level.
The best time largely depends on the region you plan to cycle. For challenging mountain passes in the Dolomites, late spring to early autumn (June to September) is ideal, avoiding snow and ice. For the Prosecco Hills, Lake Garda, or river plains, spring (April-May) and autumn (September-October) offer pleasant temperatures and beautiful scenery, avoiding the peak summer heat.
Absolutely. The Dolomites are renowned for their demanding climbs and dramatic scenery. Routes like the Sellaronda Cycle Route, which navigates four major mountain passes, or the Passo Pordoi and Passo Fedaia Loop, offer significant elevation gain and breathtaking alpine views, often featured in the Giro d'Italia.
Yes, Veneto's diverse landscape includes many gentler options. The vast plains are traversed by numerous rivers like the Adige and Sile, offering hundreds of kilometers of mostly flat cycling trails. The eastern shore of Lake Garda also provides scenic, easier rides along the lake, perfect for a more relaxed experience.
Veneto offers an incredible variety of natural landscapes. You can cycle through the majestic peaks of the Dolomites, the rolling, vineyard-covered 'hogback' hills of the Prosecco region, along the serene shores of Lake Garda, or through the unique volcanic Euganean Hills. The region also features extensive river plains and the natural habitats of the Po Delta.
Veneto is rich in history and culture. Many routes pass by UNESCO World Heritage Sites, historic cities like Vicenza with its Palladian architecture, Padua with Giotto's frescoes, and charming medieval towns such as Marostica and Cittadella. You can also admire elegant Palladian villas scattered throughout the region, particularly along the Brenta Riviera.
Yes, Veneto has beautiful natural attractions including waterfalls. Some routes may lead you near highlights such as the Molina Waterfalls or offer viewpoints like the Viewpoint over the rio and Fanes waterfalls, particularly in the mountainous areas.
Many road cycling routes in Veneto are designed as loops or ring tours, allowing you to start and end in the same location. Examples include the Passo Campolongo, Passo Valparola and Passo Falzarego — loop tour from Arabba, or the Passo Giau and Passo Falzarego - loop tour from Selva di Cadore, offering convenient round trips.
The komoot community highly rates road cycling in Veneto, with an average score of 4.4 stars from over 12,000 reviews. Yes, Veneto offers routes suitable for families, especially in the flatter regions. The river routes along the Adige or Sile, and the scenic paths along Lake Garda, provide easier, safer cycling experiences away from heavy traffic, perfect for families looking for a relaxed ride.
Parking availability varies by location. In larger towns and popular starting points for mountain passes, you'll often find designated parking areas, sometimes paid. For routes in more rural areas or along river paths, roadside parking or smaller village car parks may be available. It's always advisable to check specific route details or local information for parking options.
Public transport, including regional trains and buses, can be a viable option for reaching various starting points for road cycling routes in Veneto. Many towns and cities, especially those in the plains and near major attractions, are well-connected. However, carrying bikes on public transport might have restrictions or require specific tickets, so it's best to check with local operators beforehand.
