Fabulous road winding its way around Yuyangshan and alongside Taihu Lake. Going up and down it can be a little strenuous, but it offers beautiful views and sights. The road has an impeccable asphalt surface and a marked bike lane. The road carries very little traffic, as the main traffic is guided through the tunnel.

Highlight marks the main entrance to the park that also includes the caves. The park is popular in spring for its plum trees blooming. The caves are limestone karst caves and open to the public. The caves are illuminated with colorful lights - maybe a little bit kitsch ;-)

This highlight marks the main entrance to the Daruyi Sacred Site, that contains the Guanyin Temple and the Large Guanyin Buddha. The Buddha statue stands atop a hill and faces south onto Tiahu Lake - and is visible from afar when approaching the area. The area has been a site for temples for centuries. The Guanyin Temple has a history dating back to the 4th century. The temple today is a rebuilt.

The Linwu Caves on Xishan Island are limestone karst caves that are open to the public. The main entrance (this highlight) is on the south side of the park that surrounds the caves. The caves are illuminated colorful (maybe a little kitsch). The park itself is popular for its plum trees and their bloom in early spring. Nearby, also worth visiting, is Baoshan Temple.

The Taihu Bridge connects Xishan Island with the 'mainland' and is part of the X206 highway. Actually it is three bridges, as it uses two smaller islets over its ~7km stretch as hubs to connect to Xishan. Cycling over the bridge is on a bike lane, not a separate bike path. Better stay in lane, as cars tend to go pretty fast. As Xishan is a popular tourist spot, traffic can be busy on the weekends after 10am. Better go early ;-)

Section of the X204 highway running alongside the lake. Absolutely beautiful. Great road, great views. It ends at the entry to the Taihu Bridge. /edit: it appears the road is closed to general through traffic. The gates at either end of the road can be passed by cyclists - and you can largely have the road to yourself/
