CAUTION: Two gates were closed, so I pushed and carried my bike over the steep hills on the sides, a few hundred meters from the gate, and then somehow made my way back cross-country to the trail, and also to the second gate. You CAN do it, but I'd recommend a tour without gates. Lots of prohibition signs. And then a third gate, which you could just walk around. I thought the counterclockwise tour, as indicated, was GREAT!!! October 19, 2025. Bring enough water, salt, apple juice, etc. If necessary, wet yourself with water rather than trying to cool yourself by sweating.

The Church of the Annunciation, built between the 16th and 17th centuries, stands out for its square floor plan and single nave. Inside, you'll find side chapels and a main chapel covered with a semicircular vault. The exterior combines brick and masonry, with a simple gabled roof. It's a good cultural attraction for those visiting the town and seeking to learn about its historical heritage.

Fiñana is a perfect base for hikers between the Sierra Nevada and Los Filabres, with easy access via the A-92 and the train station. In the upper town, you can walk along the Moorish route to the Alcazaba and the cistern, and visit the unique Almohad mosque converted into the Hermitage of Our Father Jesus of Nazareth, as well as the Church of the Annunciation. From the village, trails depart to the northern slopes of the Sierra Nevada and the Nacimiento River valley, with waterfalls and sweeping views. In summer, bring water and a hat; the steep slopes and streets require well-soled shoes.

The arid, almost lunar-like landscape is breathtaking, with eroded hills, dry ravines, and stony plains. It's famous for its spectacular geological formations and for having been the setting for numerous film shoots. It's definitely worth exploring.

Hiked January 2025. Start of stairs down dangerous and unsuitable for children. Many stairs work BROKEN or gone. Very sloppy. Signposting route, almost 0. GPS reception possibilities at the bottom limited. Special landscape but there are many nicer walks. We found it disappointing.
