Beautiful mountain lake, not always full to the brim.

In autumn, the lake is largely dry and you can walk "in it."

In winter, the lake is frozen, and a flat trail surrounded by mountain slopes is surreal. In summer, the lake shrinks until it almost disappears. Then you can walk on the lake floor (dark earth), like walking on the moon. Also surreal. ;)

Frequently visited ski touring peaks. Routes over the Lämmeren Glacier from the Gemmi or Lämmerenhütte, or from the Crans-Montana ski area. We choose this as our descent. Beautiful slush slopes through the La Tieche valley. A short climb back up to the ski area or a descent to Aminona if there's enough snow.
