A little over 120 years ago, a glassworks with a grinding shop, a tavern and a school operated here. The settlement had a population of about 300 people. The three furnaces of the glassworks produced window glass, glasses, bottles and dishes. Wood ash was leached to obtain potassium - a valuable raw material for the production of paints, beer and glass. The surrounding forests provided wood, of which the glassworks used 8-9 thousand cubic meters per year.

Church of st. James in Butryny. The first church mentioned in documents from the 14th century was of wooden construction and burned down in 1682. Seven years later, the construction of a brick church in the Baroque style began. This temple also burnt down during a fire in 1886 and was rebuilt in the years 1887-1888 in the neo-Gothic style, using the old walls. The last celebration of welcoming the new Reverend Lord in the area of Butryn took place on May 12, 1767, when Bishop Ignacy Krasicki arrived in Warmia. In memory of the former ceremonial visits of church superiors to Warmia, the historic Bishop's Route was reconstructed in Bałdy.
