MONTFORT The Viscounty of Cabrera was structured through a network of castles and fortified houses, which were the seats of political and military power for the medieval nobility. This defensive system was complemented by the presence of various walled towns and watchtowers. The Montfort tower is located on the border of the municipalities of Riells i Viabrea and Arbúcies, on the hill of the same name that connects and visually dominates the two valleys. It is a military structure consisting of a circular tower with a small walled enclosure around it, built in various phases between the 12th, 13th, and first half of the 14th centuries. Defensive elements such as a loophole in the tower and the sloping perimeter wall are still visible. In medieval times: it formed part of the defensive system of Montsoriu, the main castle of the Viscounty of Cabrera, with which it has visual contact, and it served as an advanced watchtower and control of the territory and communications in the area.

A summit diary is hidden on the rocks of "la Cornera." You'll have to climb a bit, but the spectacular view is free.

Due to its location, parking areas, and restaurant... It's a special place to visit. After storm "Jana" on March 16, 2025, which left abundant water and snow... It's at 100% capacity, thus being at its best. 🤩🏞️

If you get close to Sta Fé, it's worth doing one of the circular tours that go around the Swamp. From the wall of the rush we could see how a black crow was weighing.
