September 26, 2024, Limestone Cliffs of Alcalá del Júcar

We leave the labyrinthine alleys of Alcalà del Jùcar and cycle along a good gravel road along the rio Júcar. Remains of old settlements in the limestone mountain that drops vertically. We pick figs and pomegranates that are ripe now at the end of September. Eagles fly in the upwinds. This is a route we can really recommend.

This surprising bridge is located in the Júcar gorge, very close to the buildings of the old hydroelectric plant. It is in perfect condition and is one of the most visited icons of this area of the river.

Cycling along the river Júcar you reach the town of La Recueja with houses built on the steep hill of the river bend. The local sandstone provides exciting riding routes.

You are crossing the Júcar river on a suspended wooden bridge. If you are afraid of heights close your eyes.
