If you pass by the Can Valls path, it's worth stopping to look at these three strange structures. They are not modern kilns: they are traditionally dated to the 9th–10th centuries, and one of them is still practically whole. Here, pine and oak stumps and wood were slowly baked to obtain "pega", a kind of vegetable tar used to waterproof boats and containers, and also for lighting. What's curious is to think that more than a thousand years ago, people were already working this forest and exploiting its resources right at this spot. A small stop that, if you don't know what you're looking at, goes completely unnoticed.

A monumental tree planted when the estate still functioned as a fortified house, and what's less known is that for decades it served as a landmark for the farmers and charcoal burners of the valley: "If you see the cedar, you're already close to Can Valls." Its exaggerated size is no accident: it was used to break the wind that came down from Montseny and protect the crops in the orchards. It still bears old marks from metal fastenings where tools or work ropes were hung. A discreet giant with a true farmhouse history.

A modest peak in Pla de la Calma, used by shepherds as a natural lookout point: from there they could see when the fogs descended from Matagalls, and the whistling of the wind in its small hollow signaled impending bad weather. The slate of the hill bears marks of use by old charcoal burners and muleteers, indicating that it was more of a practical crossing point than a refuge. A simple place, yet rich in historical significance.

Simple and isolated chapel in the heart of Montseny, located on a plateau that served as a crossing point between farmhouses and forest paths. Documented since the Middle Ages, it was a stopping place for shepherds and charcoal burners who left small offerings there before crossing the pass. Remains of the old shelter and the terrace that was used to gather on days of gathering can still be seen. The access is short and quiet, and the surrounding silence keeps intact the atmosphere of a remote chapel that it has always had.

A simple landmark erected in a clearing in Montseny to commemorate a beloved local resident, deeply connected to the forest and the paths he helped maintain. A little-known detail: the monolith was placed at a spot where Barbena used to stop to check the condition of the trail and, according to locals, he would often leave tools there so anyone could repair minor damage to the path. Direct access and a quiet setting, a place that preserves the spirit of those who cared for the mountain with their own hands and without making a fuss.
