The Monument to Columbus is a sculptural group located in the Portal de la Paz square in Barcelona, in the Ciutat Vella district. Built in homage to the discoverer Christopher Columbus, it is erected at the junction point between the Ramblas and the Paseo de Colón, in front of the old port of Barcelona. The author of the project was the architect Cayetano Buigas, and several artists took part in the sculptural decoration, such as Eduard B. Alentorn, Rafael Atché, Pere Carbonell, Manuel Fuxá, Josep Llimona, Rossend Nobas, Antoni Vilanova, Francisco Pagés and Agapito Vallmitjana. The foundry was by Alejandro Wohlguemuth.

The monument was built in the context of the works to improve the Barcelona coastline carried out on the occasion of the Universal Exhibition of Barcelona in 1888. Inaugurated on June 1, 1888, in full exhibition, it immediately became one of the most characteristic icons from the city. Inside the column there is an elevator that allows you to go up to the hemisphere located under the feet of the statue, from where you can see the city.

This work is registered as a Cultural Asset of Local Interest (BCIL) in the Catalan Cultural Heritage Inventory with code 08019/859.

Casa Milà (La Pedrera)

Highlight • Monument

It was commissioned by the businessman Pere Milà i Camps and his wife Roser Segimon i Artells, a native of Reus and widow of the wealthy Indian Josep Guardiola i Grau. [1] At the time it was very controversial due to the bold wavy shapes of the stone facade and the twisted wrought iron that decorate its balconies and windows, designed largely by Josep Maria Jujol, who also designed some of the low ceilings of plaster.

Architecturally it is considered an innovative work as it has a structure of columns and floors free of load-bearing walls. In the same way, the façade - entirely made of stone - is self-supporting, in other words, it must not support loads from the plants. Another innovative element was the construction of the underground garage.

It was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1984 for its outstanding universal value. [2] Since 2013, it has been the headquarters of the Fundació Catalunya La Pedrera, [3] which manages the various exhibitions and activities that take place there and visits to the building. [4]

The main windows face east and west. The sun's rays in the morning create a colder green-blue image, while in the evening warm reddish-orange-yellow tones shine through the windows to the west.

One of Gaudi's most visited buildings is the Casa Milà. On the upper floor there is an apartment set up as an example of living in earlier times. The most beautiful thing is the roof terrace.

The Sagrada Família (Catalan [səˈɣɾaðə fəˈmiɫiə]; full Catalan name Basílica i Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Família, German Basilica and Expiatory Temple of the Holy Family) is a Roman Catholic basilica of Modernisme in Barcelona and is considered the main work of the Catalan master builder Antoni Gaudí . Its construction began in 1882 and continues to this day. The previous goal of completing the church by the 100th anniversary of Gaudí's death in 2026 is no longer considered realistic since 2020

Built of red brick in the Neo-Moorish style, the Arc de Triomf rises majestically at the end of Passeig Lluís Companys. In 1888, the triumphal arch served as the main entrance to the World's Fair.

INSIDE the Columbus statue there is an elevator to get to the viewing platform. However, the elevator is very narrow and not suitable for people with claustrophobia. At the top there is a great view over the city.
