The place and lake have Slavic roots (name means approx. "pit lowland/swamp hole"). Inhabited since the Stone Age, later castle and battles in the region. Heavily destroyed during the Thirty Years' War. Today a quiet oasis by the lake. The lake is a real insider tip for everyone who likes nature, swimming, hiking and a bit of history – not overcrowded and very scenic. Ideal for a day trip!

A really beautiful swimming lake with an outdoor pool, boat rental, and diving tower. In summer, it's the hotspot for anyone who doesn't fancy crowded Baltic Sea beaches. Right next door is the hotel „Haus am See“ – perfect for sitting on the veranda in the evening with a beer and watching the mosquitoes bite.

Here in front of the Löcknitz-Penkun office there is a bronze statue of the former night watchman Bartel, who was on duty here with his cat over 100 years ago. In my opinion, the area around the statues could have been designed a little more beautifully. As it is, they are standing more or less directly at the crossroads!
