The Courant de Contis on Wikipedia is an approximately 31-kilometer-long coastal river in the southwestern French department of Landes in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. It belongs to the characteristic "Courants Landais", a group of small, often natural watercourses that serve as natural outlets for the extensive system of lakes and wetlands behind the dunes. Its source originates in the municipality of Lesperon at an altitude of about 86 meters. From there, it flows westward through the dense pine forests of the Landes de Gascogne cultural landscape, receiving several tributaries along the way, such as the Ruisseau de Mézos. The bronze statue depicts a traditional woman from the Landes (une Landaise). She leans against a striking base made of the regional pink sandstone from Bidarray (pierre rose de Bidarray). Soldier graves are symbolically carved into the stone.
