The Col du Calvaire (1144 m) is a mountain pass in the Vosges that connects Le Valtin to Orbey in Alsace. Situated on the Route des Crêtes, between the Col du Bonhomme and the Col de la Schlucht, this pass offers magnificent views of Lac Blanc and the surrounding peaks. The name refers to an old Calvary that once stood above the lake. During the First World War, the German front line ran along this pass, which also gives the place a historical charge. In winter, the pass is part of the Lac Blanc ski area and is partly closed to traffic.

The German military cemetery of Hohrod-Bärenstall is located on the slope of the Collet du Linge, between the villages of Hohrod and Orbey. It contains the graves of 2,460 German soldiers who fell during the bloody battles of Le Linge and the Tête des Faux in 1915. The site was originally established in 1916 by Bavarian troops and later redeveloped by the Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge. The cemetery is laid out in a sober, geometric style, with 1,518 individual graves and an ossuary containing the remains of 942 soldiers, including hundreds of unknown graves.

The early medieval town was first mentioned in 877. The wine-growing village is located on the Alsace Wine Route on the Kafferkopf mountain. Ammerschwihr (Ammersweyer) is not at all or very little tourist-oriented. The old half-timbered buildings are unspoiled, with plenty of patina, and no tourists anywhere in sight; everything is very quiet, idyllic, and worth seeing.
