Free and clean—at least when I was there. It's definitely part of the small harbor complex.

Very nice view and nice inland harbor. The café is tempting, but the stairs are steep...

The Machecoul forest is not a single block. It has been thinned into different blocks that stretch from west to east for several kilometers. If I understand correctly, the eastern part is closed to the public, near the photovoltaic plant. But the western part is well marked and well maintained, from what I have seen. And relatively dry during flood periods, which is rare in the region. (dry forests, not flood periods 😉). It's all in the "relatively", of course. In any case, I will happily return there if I pass through the area.

The footbridge is closed (in November 2024) because its condition is too degraded... It's hard to say when work will be done. In the meantime, the detour via the road bridge to the northeast remains a good option (and will probably even be faster by bike because there are no steps!).

We didn't want to climb up these high steps with our fully loaded bikes. The small detour along the marked EV1 route over the next weir is much easier and certainly doesn't take much longer. At the top of the stairs you'll notice the sign saying that it's only 1,547km to Santiago de Compostela! If you've made it this far, you'll probably make it to the "Field of Stars". Buen Camino!

Everyone here seems to take similar photos of the canal with its many fishing huts and boats. This place is simply picturesque. Crossing the bridge with fully loaded bikes is not advisable. It is worth taking a small detour along the marked EV1 route over the next weir. Unfortunately, we didn't have enough time to eat in the small restaurant as we wanted to go to our accommodation in Bouin.
