Notre-Dame Collegiate Church, Dole

Highlight • Historical Site

The collegiate church of Notre-Dame de Dole, in the Jura, was built in the 16th century. It then replaced a previous church which was destroyed in 1479 when the city was razed by the troops of the King of France Louis XI when he wanted to seize Franche-Comté after the disappearance of Charles the Bold, last sovereign duke of Burgundy. …

This spot marks the canal's mouth at the Saône River. The Rhine-Rhône Canal had a turbulent history, with construction interrupted by the French Revolution and finally extending from 1784 to 1832.

The lock at the canal's mouth has been renovated. In 2009, a lock keeper's cabin was installed, perched six meters high, to control the arrival of boats.

Trompe-l'Œil Fresco of Dole

Highlight • Monument

DOLE, capital of the former County, today a City of Art and History, benefits from an exceptional heritage with a Remarkable Heritage Site spanning 114 hectares. As part of a global approach to revitalize the Heart of the City (housing, roads, public spaces, shops, etc.) this square has been the subject of development to strengthen the heritage image of the Doloise city.

The demolition of a wooden construction used as a bar (the Bar Jurassien) made it possible to open up the view of the Hôtel Terrier de Santans and in particular its characteristic staircases from the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries, classified as Historic Monuments.

A large blind gable of the building next to this new public space provided an ideal support to honor the women and men who have marked the history of DOLE over the past ten centuries by creating a trompe-l fresco. the eye which depicts them on characteristic elements of Dole architecture. The shop on the ground floor also allows you to showcase the centuries-old know-how of the city (Bleu de Dole, cheese factories, foundries, etc.).

This fresco created by Haut les Murs, muralist painters, was inaugurated by Jean-Baptiste GAGNOUX, Mayor of Dole and Jean-Marie SERMIER, MP for Jura, on September 23, 2017.
