The Luxembourgish town of Remich (or Réimech in Luxembourgish), surrounded by vineyards, lies about ten kilometers north of Schengen on the left bank of the Moselle river and is a lively and attractive town. On the riverside promenade, the Quai de la Moselle, numerous restaurants, brasseries and cafés invite you to take a short or longer break.

Today, during my tour on both sides of the Saar (near Merzig), I was able to ascertain with astonishment that the rest stops (near the Merzig bridge), both on the Merzig side and on the Hilbringen side, were still open in the evening (around 8:00 PM). So, nothing stands in the way of a little break, even at this late hour ;-)

In this spot along the Saar, it is wonderfully quiet. On both sides of the river, you will only find gravel paths for hikers and cyclists, so no noise from cars or other motorized traffic. Only the tranquility of nature and the babbling water.

Today, 02.08.2026, I rode the new section of the route along the Saar between Fremersdorf and Saarfels by bike again. A big plus for every user of this section is the new asphalt. You can really ride on it very well (not like on the adjacent section towards Merzig ;-)). The only thing to note is that on this side of the Saar, on this route, there is no shade. Here the sun hits you with full energy. If you want more shade, I recommend the Saarweg on the other side of the Saar. At least on the parallel section there, you are spared from too much sun exposure.

Today was the day. The first ride on the bike over the new section of the Saarweg between Fremersdorf and Saarfels on the Merzig side is behind me. It took several weeks from development to the final asphalt paving of the section, but in my opinion, it was worth it. I can only say, thumbs up for this great new section along the Saar riverbank. I don't know if the path is already open to the public, but I was able to ride it today without any obstacles with my road bike. Truly a successful result and definitely worth a bike ride or a walk !!!!
