An interesting column, erected in the millennium year 2000, between Unterbergern and Oberbergern.

Along the Fladnitz Valley Cycle Path (R8), a steel and concrete bridge with a wooden railing crosses the Fladnitz River. Directly at this point, the cycle path options branch off: the short route via Statzendorf, the longer, more challenging route via Karlstetten, and the short Kuffen Loop. All paths lead through the rolling hills and meadows of the Fladnitz Valley.

I find the southern side of the Wachau much more pleasant and beautifully laid out as a cycle path. You cycle through beautiful orchards and vineyards and small villages, and on top of that you have fantastic views of the northern slopes of the Wachau.

Above Rossatz, amidst the picturesque vineyards of the Wachau region, lies this impressive sculpture of an emerald lizard. Created in 2008 by sculptor Erich Pummer, this work of art symbolizes the region's close connection to this rare species of lizard, which is native to the warm, sun-drenched vineyards. The path to the sculpture leads through idyllic vineyards and orchards, offering breathtaking views of Dürnstein and the surrounding countryside along the way. A detour to the emerald lizard sculpture is worthwhile not only for the artwork itself, but also for the fascinating panoramas. The emerald lizard is also the namesake of the "emerald wine," which stands for the region's particularly high-quality and complex wines.
