Tips from the Community

Eric Mn
August 9, 2025, Alignement de la Pierre

The Pierre alignment is composed of three blocks aligned north-south. The one in the central position is of significant size. It is made of granite, 5.35 m high above ground and its weight is estimated at 35 tons. The two menhirs surrounding it come from a single block broken in two by an aplite vein that weakened it. These two blocks, discovered during the excavations of 1991-92, today make this monument unique. The wedge pits for each erected block were found during the excavations. The archaeological finds testify to different periods of occupation between the Neolithic and the Bronze Age.

It is a dolmen (known as n°1) forming part of a group of 3 neighboring dolmens together designated the "dolmens of Savatole". This one is on the side of the road, but the other two are in the middle of the fields.

Behind the town hall of Avrillé is the largest of the Vendée menhirs, also called Menhir de Bourg-Jardin" or "The king of menhirs" with its 7m height. The public park in which it is located is a very quiet area. , conducive to a break, if you need it or simply want it.
