The Clot canal serves as a spillway for the Canal du Midi in case of flooding. It is not navigable and is a prime fishing spot.

Vias-Plage stretches along five kilometers of fine sandy beaches. On the seafront, a pedestrian promenade, built behind the dunes, allows you to gain a little height over the Mediterranean. The large lettering « #LoveViasMéditerranée », installed on the headland facing the sea, has become an emblematic photo spot of the resort. Also enjoy the many bars, restaurants, and small shops that liven up the promenade.

Largely built of basalt stone, a legacy of the volcanic history of the Agde region, the historic center of Vias boasts a rich architectural heritage. In particular, discover the Saint-Jean-Baptiste church, the market halls, the Bishop's house, and the remains of the old medieval ramparts. Also, keep an eye out for the 17th-century "serlian" doors that adorn some facades and are one of the architectural peculiarities of the old town. On your visit, don't miss the Théâtre de l’Ardaillon, which completes this discovery of Vias's heritage with a rich cultural program throughout the year.

🌉 Pont des Trois Yeux – the bridge with the three eyes This unusual old stone bridge stands directly on the Canal du Midi. Its actual name is Pont Saint-Joseph, but it is best known as the “Pont des Trois Yeux” – Bridge of the Three Eyes. 🇫🇷 The name is immediately explained upon closer inspection: the bridge has three arches. The large central arch allowed boats to pass, while the two smaller openings served the water or the towing path at the time. The history of towing is particularly interesting: Before motorboats navigated the canal, the barges were primarily pulled by horses from the bank. 🐴 At many bridges, the tow rope had to be detached and reattached on the other side – such structures today still beautifully illustrate how shipping on the Canal du Midi worked in the past. Another special feature are the overflows on both sides of the bridge, through which excess water could be drained. Not a huge sight, but exactly one of those small historical structures that make a bike tour along the Canal du Midi so interesting. 🚲👌🏼 Greetings Marcus ✌🏼

🛍️ Weekly market in Vias – fresh produce & restaurants right next door The weekly market in Vias is definitely a must-visit for us when we're in town. 🇫🇷😊 Here you'll find exactly what you imagine a southern French market to be: fresh fish, oysters, mussels, shrimp, olives, pickled specialties, and lots of regional products. Particularly interesting are, of course, the fish and seafood stalls. 🐟🦐🦪 The fish is prepared on-site, and with the oysters, you can choose between different sizes. In addition, there are small shops with terrines, pâtés, olives, jams, and other French specialties – perfect if you want to take something home with you. The area around the market becomes really cozy with the small restaurants, bars, and wine taverns. 🍷🍽️ Instead of moving on right after shopping, you can simply sit down at one of the tables and watch the market bustle. We really like this combination: first, a leisurely stroll through the market, discovering fresh and regional items, and then eating or drinking something in one of the restaurants. 👌🏼 Not a huge tourist market, but a beautiful, typically southern French weekly market in the middle of Vias, where the market, small shops, and gastronomy fit together wonderfully. 🇫🇷🥰 Greetings Marcus ✌🏼

🌴 Vias Plage Promenade – Sea View & Holiday Feeling The promenade of Vias Plage is a must for me. 🌊☀️ It runs slightly elevated behind the dunes and therefore always offers a really beautiful view over the beach and the Mediterranean Sea. Palm trees, small shops, boutiques, restaurants, ice cream parlors and bars provide plenty of holiday feeling. 🍹🍦 Especially in the late afternoon and in the evening, there is a lot going on here and you can stroll along wonderfully. In between, there are always access points to the beach and places from which you can simply look out at the sea. The large "LOVE #VIAS MÉDITERRANÉE" is of course also a perfect photo stop. 📸 Nice mix of beach, sea view, shopping and gastronomy – and at sunset at the latest, it gets really cozy here. 🌅👌🏼 Greetings Marcus 😎✌🏼

⛪ Église Saint-Jean-Baptiste – A journey back in time in the heart of Vias In the heart of Vias' historic center stands the impressive Église Saint-Jean-Baptiste. From the outside, with its dark stone, it already looks quite massive – only inside does it reveal how much history is contained within this church. The church was first mentioned in documents as early as 1156. Its current form largely dates from the 14th and 15th centuries and belongs to the Southern French Gothic style. Particularly interesting: it was formerly part of the Vias town fortifications, thus serving not only a religious but also a protective function. Inside, the large nave, the vaults, and many historical details are striking. Especially worth seeing are the old pulpit, the stained-glass windows, and the large rose window. Since 1907, the church has been listed as a historic monument (Monument historique). 🇫🇷 Anyone strolling through the small alleys of Vias or visiting the market should definitely pop in. Interesting from the outside – even more impressive from the inside. 👌🏼 Greetings Marcus 😎✌🏼

Small tip: Anyone who knows the market from before will be surprised. Since 2023 it has become significantly larger – it feels almost twice as big as originally. As a result, there is naturally even more to discover and you should allow a little more time accordingly. 👌🏼 Greetings Marcus
