Almi
May 31, 2026, Ste-Marine : casemate Ti Napoléon

Built in the 18th century, this guardhouse is the only remaining vestige of a larger coastal defense system that included a munitions store and flagpoles. Indeed, Louis XIV wanted to make the kingdom's maritime borders inviolable. Colbert then ordered the construction of coastal batteries and guard posts along the coastline. Vauban was tasked with the implementation of these buildings erected at vulnerable points: beaches, estuaries, port entrances. Ste-Marine was equipped with a battery comprising two buildings, a powder magazine, and a furnace for heating cannonballs. This battery was equipped with three 8-pounder cannons allowing for crossfire with the batteries of Bénodet (2 cannons) and l'Ile-Tudy (3 cannons). Today rehabilitated, the Corps de garde, also called Ti Napoléon, hosts small-format exhibitions from June to September.

Built in 1885 to strengthen the lighting system at the entrance to the Odet. The term "lighthouse" is inaccurate, its characteristics making it a light. It completes the network set up in 1823. Its plan is characteristic of the constructions of the time. It consists of two parts: the keeper's house and the turret, which reaches about fifteen meters in height. Occupied by the Germans from July 1940, its lantern was destroyed in August 1944. It was rebuilt identically in the following years.

Built in 1862 to succeed the 18th-century casemate (Ti-Napoléon) which, following advances in weaponry, was no longer deemed capable of defending the coast. The fort, of standard design, was intended to house 12 cannons and 60 men. The cannons were placed outside in wartime, and in the "redoubt" in peacetime. The fort's battery operated with the smaller one at Bénodet. Enemy ships that escaped the first found themselves under the fire of the second. Disarmed shortly after its completion, the fort was integrated into the Atlantic Wall built by the Germans during World War II. The system was completed by the construction of several blockhouses.

There's a height restriction on all parking spaces near the beach, making parking with a van impossible. Apparently, neither camper vans nor dogs are welcome here. We parked here.
