Former Verdon Canal

Highlight (Segment) • Lake

This portion of the hiking trail follows the route of the old Verdon canal, which was in service from 1875 to the 1980s. The canal was used at the time to carry water to the villages, as well as to the farming lands. Today, the path has been laid out and allows you to hike as close as possible to the Verdon. It is a truly magnificent passage, where you move along the side of cliffs.

This small chapel dates from the 19th century. From there, we have a great view of the lower Verdon gorges.

Gréoux-les-Bains

Highlight • Settlement

The thermal cures of Gréoux-les-Bains are well known and have been since antiquity. The thermal baths have sulphated, calcium, sodium, magnesium thermal waters, rich in trace elements which treat rheumatology and respiratory tract conditions. This age-old water rises at a depth of 1,200 meters and comes out at 42°C.

This city is definitely a city of water because it is located on the edge of the Verdon and is close to the Lac de Sainte-Croix. So many assets in the eyes of those who love outdoor activities.

Beautiful hike, but very crowded. Bring plenty of water, as there are no drinking water sources.

A great "COOL" trail, partly along the water's edge, pleasant in warm weather! Be careful, the only difficulty is carrying or pushing, in fits and starts, for about 300 meters between km 4 and 5. A bit tough for electric mountain bikes! Don't take the other trail, which is more direct, but where there's actually a ladder to climb!! Not very technically challenging, but you need to be used to riding on more or less stony paths and trails...! Along the Colostre, the trail collapses for about 4 meters, but it's manageable on foot.

We went through the tunnel despite the fact that parts of it were ankle-deep in water and we thought it was great.

A flashlight is advisable. The tunnel is about 100m long and pitch black

Small, very easy flat circuit that can be done as a family, bring water and headgear anyway, especially in the middle of summer

MAGNIFICENT 2nd mountain bike outing for our Thalasso and mountain bike holidays (happiness) in Gréoux les Bains. We left Saint Julien le Montagnier, heading towards Lake Esparron through the mountain! This is a course that should be classified as a MUST-SEE!! Paths, diverse and varied landscapes are magnificent and a superb view of Lake Esparron. Do not take into account wet weather and also electric mountain bikes because there are steep passages where you have to carry the mountain bike and it is quite dangerous. We had a great day, and after the effort we had a massage for comfort!
