Bourges' city beach… On the north side of the lake lies a surprising city beach. In summer, there's supervised swimming, playground equipment, and a grassy area with benches and tables for picnics and barbecues. The walking path offers beautiful views of the water with the city in the background. A perfect spot for a break, a dip, or just relaxing with your feet in the sand.

Much more than a city lake... This large lake appears to be a nature reserve, but it was artificially created in the 1970s as a water buffer and recreation area for Bourges. It has since grown into a green oasis where you can spot a surprising number of migratory birds. An added bonus: in summer, concerts and events are regularly held around the lake.

Walking around Lake Auron is one of the locals' favorite activities. With its 5.5 km circumference, it is an ideal loop for family walks as well as for experienced athletes. Connected to the city center by the green ring road, whether walking, running or cycling, the layout is suitable for all styles of walks. It is not uncommon to come across migratory birds that have taken up residence on the island on your way. The geese and ducks have their own beach, not shy, they will welcome you. Inaugurated in 2017, the Val d'Auron beach comes alive as soon as the sun rises. The urban lake and its 850m2 of supervised swimming area in the summer become "Bourges Plage". Want to build sandcastles and swim with a view of the cathedral? It's here! To take a break between two swims, you will find refuge in the shade of the trees, in an area equipped with picnic tables, and even barbecues, to enjoy with family or friends. To occupy the more sporty among us, Beach Volleyball and pétanque courts promise long, wild games. For more information: https://www.bourgesberrytourisme.com/2021/08/20/autour-du-lac-dauron/

Former Archepiscopal Palace, now Town Hall. Pierre Bullet had devised a plan to build a large palace next to the cathedral, with buildings around two courtyards. However, only two walls of the planned main building were built, as well as the monumental staircase. After a fire in 1871, the La Vrillière pavilion was completed by Emile Tarlier, and the other buildings were modified from the original draft. The gardens do not follow the plan of Le Nôtre and include part of the Gallo-Roman enclosure, evoking a public garden from the second half of the 19th century.

In Bourges, near the town hall and the cathedral, a 150-year-old maple man died this summer. Rather than shoot him down, the town hall decided to entrust him to a sculptor. A tree-based sculptor from Ardèche made this work: Jacques Pissenem took three days to complete the work. Some passers-by are surprised: they think that the sculptor did not finish because half of the trunk remained intact. Jacques Pissenem, a tree carver, explains his choice: "As the trunk split very clearly in two, I thought it was interesting to have one side completely sculpted and another left raw to play the contrast. It appeals to passersby. The specifications were to do something abstract and contemporary. In front of the cathedral and its remarkable sculptures, I didn't see myself embarking on anything different. This gives a second impetus to this tree, which is beautiful. It should be able to hold this for another five to ten years.

Appointed parish priest of Châteauneuf-sur-Cher in 1861, Abbé Ducros discovered a ruined church. To rebuild it, he decides to subscribe, asking "two pennies" from each child in exchange for which he promises to pray for him the Virgin Mary. In return, he received many "two cents," but also many letters, including one written by a ten-year-old girl, a Semur-en-Brionnais resident.
