It marks the location of the northern gate of the town of Saint-Amarin in the Middle Ages and was the seat of the bailiffs from the 13th to the 18th century. From the 13th century, when they became sedentary, until 1789 (French Revolution), the bailiffs were of paramount importance. Their powers were extensive: army, justice, administration, tax collection Their bailiwick experienced the invasion of the Hungarians, the Armagnacs (nicknamed the skinners), the English, the Spanish, the Swedes, the Croats, the Russians, the Peasants' War, the Thirty Years' War, and up to the French Revolution! After the Revolution, this house became the property of textile industrialists who transformed it over the years to give it its current appearance. But that's another story. On its facade facing the road, we admire a fresco, painted by M. Finiels, which depicts the "Friedburg" castle and the street crossed by knights in armor.
