Between Klein Venedig and the ERBA island, a continuous riverside path follows the left arm of the Regnitz. The section "Am Leinritt" recalls its original function in its name: here, horses and haulers once pulled ships upstream. Today, it is a quiet walking path with views of fishermen's houses, boat docks, and the water. Further downstream, the path widens into the ERBA Park, the former site of the Erlangen-Bamberger cotton mill, which was transformed into a spacious park landscape with meadows, water features, and riverside terraces for the 2012 State Garden Show. The old factory buildings now house parts of the university. 📍 Route: Fischerei – Am Leinritt – Markusbrücke – Landesgartenschauweg / ERBA-Park 🚶 Level, well-maintained path, also easily manageable with a stroller 🛶 Ideal perspective of Klein Venedig from the opposite bank 🌳 ERBA Park: lots of greenery, steps by the water, popular for breaks in the summer 🐟 With a bit of luck, you can see anglers, rowers, and canoeists on the river 🌉 The loop can be shortened as desired via the Markusbrücke

The ensemble within the 14th and 15th century fortification ring developed from the earliest mention of the present settlement around 800. The town parish church of St. Kilian was founded centrally within it even before 1007. In 1130, the settlement received market rights, a good 250 years later full jurisdiction. From 1422, the town's fortifications were built. In 1473, the town burned down, including the parish church and the town hall. In the Thirty Years' War, in 1684, almost the entire place fell prey to the flames again. The symbol of the subsequent reconstruction is the town hall from 1686/87. Of particular importance is the cohesive appearance of the buildings, which is shaped by the reconstruction after the town fire of 1684. These typically include two-storey front houses, often with gables facing the street, featuring decorative half-timbering on the upper floor. In addition to wall remnants, the Bamberger Torturm gate tower, dating back to the 16th century in its core, has been preserved from the town's fortifications.

A different kind of "war memorial", nothing heroic but simply lime trees meant to commemorate the loss of loved ones.
