From the year 1726. It was partially destroyed during the pogrom night in 1938. During the Second World War, prisoners of war were housed there, later also refugees and displaced persons. In the second half of the 20th century, the building was temporarily used as a gymnasium and later as a storage room for the community. From 1988 to 1993, the building was renovated by the Interessengemeinschaft Synagoge and has since served as a meeting, cultural, and memorial site. A permanent exhibition about the Jews of the Obermain region has been set up on the former women's gallery. wikipedia

The Catholic parish church of the Nativity of Mary in Altenkunstadt is not only a striking building in the Lichtenfels district, but also one of the most historically significant churches in the region. It is considered a so-called original parish, whose roots reach back to the time of Charlemagne. The parish was probably founded as one of the 14 "Slavic churches" that Charlemagne had built in the Main-Regnitz region around the year 800 for the purpose of Christianization. Originally belonging to the Diocese of Würzburg (hence the secondary patronage of St. Kilian), it fell to the Diocese of Bamberg in 1333 and was placed under the authority of the Cistercian monastery of Langheim in 1336. After the Peasants' War, the church was rebuilt between 1525 and 1537 as a late Gothic hall church.
